The Festival Director, Mr Thabo Leanya, has resigned from his position at Morija Museum. Mr Leanya has been employed by the Ministry of Tourism, Environment & Culture with immediate effect in order to take up an important post within the Department of Culture. Employed at Morija Museum since August 2000, Thabo has since 2009 assumed responsibility as the full time Morija Festival Director. We appreciate the significant contributions that he has made in regard to the Morija Arts & Cultural Festival, as well as in orther ways towards the growth and development of Morija Museum. The Post to which he is moving in the Department of Culture is called Principal Art & Craft Officer – in truth the post is much broader and includes the performing arts and the creative econom y. As such, we are fortunate that someone who understands Morija so well has been placed in this strategic position. We wish him well and continued success – no doubt we will interact regularly with him in his new position.
While the processes regarding the development of the Morija Festival have continued to move forward, the Museum has been seeking in addition to develop a regular Calendar of Creative Events at Morija and the enhancement of the Morija Arts, Culture and Heritage Precinct through the Seriti sa Morija Project. As such, we will be replacing Mr Leanya as Festival Director with a person who will be called the Creative Director, someone who can strategically cultivate and enhance creative programmes and activities throughout the year (including the Morija Festival) as well as carry out/coordinate marketing, fund-raising and other tasks.
