Mothibeli Kometsi

A quiet and intense young man, Mothibeli’s work is already finding acceptance, particularly his portraits which seem to speak eloquently of a particular African sensibility.

About him

Mothibeli Lawrence Kometsi was born on the 12th June, 1988 at Morija Scott Hospital. He obtained his primary level certificate at Morija Primary School in 2000. In 2001 he attended Lesotho High School in Maseru Lesotho, receiving a COSC certificate in 2005. In 2007 he went on to study Architectural Technology at a diploma level at Lerotholi Polytechnic in Maseru. This took him into the building industry and broadened his knowledge in design.

About his work

In 2010 Mothibeli returned to Morija and began producing art work on a professional level, working with different mediums such as oil on canvas, acrylic paints and charcoal on paper. He has since been working with Patrick Rorke at Morija Art Centre and displayed his work at Maeder House Gallery.

“I work intuitively, having never attended art school, but I know now that I am searching for a marriage between art and architecture.”
